Welcome to the Global Crime News Network where the aim is to shed light on crimes that are less highlighted in the mainstream media.

Since the turn of the millennium, the field of criminology has under gone a significant shift in focus. Traditional criminological perspectives tended to view crime as a national or “local phenomenon” (Friedrichs, 2007). As criminology evolved through disciplines such as white collar and corporate crime, criminologists increasingly began to recognise the potential of crime to transcend national and local borders (Cressey, 1969; Clinard and Yeager, 1980). In a modern digital era, the world has become more interconnected and new forms of governance and power have evolved through a process known as globalisation. This process saw a number of criminologists develop global perspectives on crime (Friedrichs, 2007; Karstedt and Bussman, 2000; Sheptycki and Wardak, 2003). The relatively new and emerging field of global criminology examines issues in international and transnational crimes that have not “traditionally been the focus of mainstream criminology and criminal justice” (Jaishankar and Ronnel, 2013). This unique area of criminology is able to analyse the complexities of power relations and their impacts on crime.

Areas of crime covered by GCNN

Corporate Crime

Although corporate crime has been removed from many university syllabuses, it still remains a key area within crime research. In the age of digital surveillance, corporate crime is more relevant than ever, particularly with the recent data scandals involving Google, Microsoft and many other big corporations.

Political Corruption

Political corruption is at an all-time high. In modern times political corruption has reached such a level where the general public has become desensitized to it

Digital Surveillance

In a modern technological world digital surveillance methods have now gone global. This has become known as the rise of surveillance capitalism (Zuboff, 2019). GCNN will provide an in-depth look at how surveillance is going global and leading the world towards totalitarian surveillance states.

Global Governance

Global Governance is also a relatively new field within criminology. The emergence of public health surveillance during the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise of technocrats such as Bill Gates and Elon Musk has seen a shift in how the world is governed. NGO’s and powerful corporate organisations now call the shots instead of governments but is this a good thing?

Global Agendas

Global agendas are political ideologies that are planned out in advance and then slowly implemented on the general public. For this topic we look at the agendas being implemented and the super rich within the deep state who have the power to enforce these agendas.

Crimes of the Elite

Great men who were not so great. In this section we examine the criminal behaviour of certain ‘elites’ who were involved in atrocious crimes. From past figures like Sir Winston Churchill, and Benjamin Franklin to present day ‘elites’ such as Bill Gates and George Soros.

The aim is to provide new perspectives on traditional orthodox historian views on crime.
